Ionia Standard, 11 Jul 1884

Eli T. Welch, of Portland, died suddenly, July 4th, of hemorrhage of the lungs.
 He was riding in his buggy at the time of the seizure and did not live more
than ten minutes from the time he was assisted into the house.  Mr. Welch was
well known to the traveling public, the Welch hotel being a favorite stopping
place with travelers for many years.
