The Ionia Standard, Friday, September 8, 1893

Matthew Welch, a well-known farmer of North Plains, residing one and a half 
miles west of Hubbardston, fell dead yesterday.  He went out to change his 
sheep into another lot, and was found a little later near the bars where he 
fell.  The doctors pronounce it heart disease.  He was about 35 years old, and 
to all appearance was remarkably strong and rugged.
