Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the residence,. Rev. Paul Stewart will officiate and interment will be at Highland park cemetery. Pursuant to the last request, friends and neighbors are asked to omit flowers. Born January 17, 1857, at the old Welch homestead in Ionia township, the son of John B. and Sarah Ann Morgan Welch, he had lived the greater part of his life in Ionia township and Ionia city. His parents were pioneers of this section, his father having come to Ionia in March 1836. His mother was Sarah Ann Roberts, widow of Amos N. Roberts. Four children were born to this union, Marcia, who died in 1929, Mary who died in 1923, Daris in 1927 and Amos Morgan Welch. In 1879 Amos Welch moved to Longton, Elk county, Kansas, where he was engaged with his father in a sheep ranching enterprise. September 17, 1881 he married Emma Tremayne of Ionia at Kansas City, Missouri, and the couple returned to Longton where they made their home until May of 1884 when they returned to Ionia and purchased the old homestead in Ionia township from his father. From 1884 to 1910 the couple lived on the farm. In 1910 they moved to the present home at 230 East Washington street and his sons carried on the farming operation in a father and son partnership until 1928 when the elder Welch retired. During his active years Mr. Welch was a man of varied business and agricultural interests. He organized the Michigan Land company in 1910 and managed its operations until 1926. He was a former member an director of the Ionia County Agricultural society, the organization which preceded the Ionia Free Fair association in the sponsoring of a fair at Ionia. He was active in Farmer’s institute work and at one time was a director of the State Savings bank of Ionia. He was a charter member of Ionia Elks lodge and a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Knights of the Maccabees. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Ionia. Mr. and Mrs. Welch observed their 60th wedding anniversary this fall at their home with members of their family present. They had one son, George, who died in infancy in 1893. Surviving are the wife, Emma; three sons, John B. of Ronald township, Henry T. of Ionia township, and Palmer Welch of Lafayette street; four grandchildren, Amos Welch, Jr., Douglas Welch, Emma Jane Crossman and Jane Welch; three great grandchildren, Janet Welch, Marcia Louise Welch and Mary Jo Crossman.
