Sept. 6, 1988 IONIA- Opal N. Welsh, 60, of Ionia, died Monday at the Ionia County Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 14, 1928 in Ionia, the daughter of Stanley and Mable (Hahn) Borton. She graduated from Lyons High School. She worked for Mitchell-Bentley, DeBoer’s Greenhouse and the Chrysler Trim Plant. She was a member of the Muir-Lyons V.F.W. Auxiliary Post No. 4646. She married Harold J. Welsh on Feb. 7, 1948 in Indiana. He preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1978. Surviving are: two son, Michael Welsh and Patrick Welsh, both of Ionia; two daughters, Joy Benner and Janet Carroll, both of Ionia; two step-daughters, Dawn Twichell lf DeWitt and Doris Lange of Lansing; five grandchildren; three brothers, Louis Borton of Big Rapids, Donald Borton of Saranac, and David Borton of Ionia; one sister, Arlene Borton of Ionia. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Danny Killion and one brother, Carl Borton. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Myers Memorial Chapel, 148 E. Main St., Ionia, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Burial will be in Tuttle Cemetery. Friends may visit the family Tuesday (today) 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Myers Memorial Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ionia County Memorial Hospital Respiratory Department.
