She was born August 12, 1922, in Ionia, the youngest child of Frederick and Lucy Kidd. She graduated from Ionia High School in 1940 and Albion College in 1944 with a degree in education. Kaye received her master's degree in reading education from Columbia University in New York City and taught school in several Michigan cities, ending up in Grosse Pointe, where she met her husband, Jack, a fellow teacher. They married in Ionia in 1954 and after a short stint in Dallas, TX., settled in Ionia where they raised their two children, Ann Louise and Jim. They were very active in the community and especially, the First Presbyterian Church. Kaye taught Sunday school, was involved in her church's Women's Circle, and was a dedicated volunteer at all her local hospitals. After retiring, she and Jack loved spending winters in Scottsdale, AZ. Kaye was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend as demonstrated by her many lifelong friendships and was very committed to her family, church, and especially her favorite sports team, the Detroit Tigers. She could still name all the players and watched every game on TV. Her generosity and dry wit were well known among all who knew her. Kaye was the last surviving member of the original owners of the Ionia Sentinel-Standard and remained an avid newspaper reader her entire life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, her parents, her brother, Fred Kidd, and sisters Harriet and Florence. Survived by her daughter, Ann Williams, son, James (Amy) Welch, grandchildren; Erin Lauth, Nathan Williams, Kristin Williams, Evan Welch, Cameron Welch, and 9 great- grandchildren. Also survived by her favorite nieces, "the Kidd girls", Lois Scott, Margaret Gregory, and Carol Duczyminski. A graveside service will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American heart Association in her memory.
