Of a frank and manly bearing, modest and unassuming in his manners, and with a disposition for the quieter pleasurer of youthful years, and a special love for home enjoyment, his circle of acquaintances was perhaps not as extended as that of some young men, but it embraced none who were not in truth his friends. He was thoughtful beyond his years, ever seeming to consider more the comfort and happiness of his friends than his own. During his long and painful illness of over a year's duration, he never complained, and always seemed to regard his conditions more with sorrow and regret for his parents' sake than for his own. He died as quietly and easily as a child going to sleep, and was conscious to the last, his last thoughts and words being an evident desire to comfort his mother in her bereavement. The funeral took place at 2 p.m. yesterday from the Presbyterian Church, the service being preached by Rev. J. Pierson. In addition to the large number of family friends, the members of Hoyt's Band, of which deceased was a competent and popular member until compelled to withdraw by his illness, appeared as mourners.
