Welch of North Plains. Thomas Welch, one of the oldest of the pioneer residents of North Plains township, living 14 miles west of Hubbardston, died on Friday night at the age of 78 years. He was about Thursday, as was his usual and active habit. Deceased was a much esteemed resident in his neighborhood, and had numerous friends in Ionia city, where he made frequent visits. He was the father of Mrs. Henry Allen and Patrick Welch of this city. The funeral was attended on Monday from St. John's church, Hubbardston. Rev. Fr. McCabe preached a very fine sermon, extolling the worth of the deceased during his life as a citizen of North Plains. The funeral was probably the largest ever attended in the locality, more than 150 teams being in the line to the cemetery. Those from Ionia who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Allen, Patrick Welch, James Scully, Patrick Barrett M. Behan and Bert Burns.
