Welch, born in Easton, Ionia county, January 13, 1842, died at his son’s home, Lansing, Mich., February 10, 1920, having rounded out his 70th year. He was of a sturdy pioneer race. His father, Simon Welch, born at Herkimer, N.Y., and his mother in Canada, and having settled here when Ionia was virtually a wilderness. Deceased was the oldest of 11 children, two of whom remain, Mrs. E. F. Strong of Ionia and Rev. V. P. Welch of California. On June 9, 1864 the deceased was united in marriage to Elizabeth Hawley, also of Ionia county, who with four sons are left to mourn her loss, Frank E. of Easton, Byron H. of Lansing, Herbert S. of Houston, Texas and Ray L. of Ionia. A kind and loving husband and father, as well as a tried friend of all, will cause his memory to linger in our minds as a “truly good man.” Card of Thanks: Words cannot express our gratitude for the loving sympathy shown by all in our recent bereavement.
