The Portland Observer, Thursday, September 2, 1915
Mrs. Nancy Welch, mother of John Welch, and grandmother of Ray and Byron 
Welch, of Portland, died at Ionia last Saturday.  She was 96 years of age and 
the oldest woman in Ionia county.  Funeral services were held Monday at Ionia, 
six of her grandsons acting as pall bearers.  Mrs. Welch had lived in Ionia 
county since 1838 and spent many years on her farm in Easton.  She leaves 
three children, Rev. Vine Welch, of Dakota, John Welch, of Portland, and Mrs. 
Emory Strong, of Easton.  Byron and Ray Welch accompanied by their father, 
John Welch, attended the funeral at Ionia Monday.
