The Ionia Daily Sentinel, Tuesday, September 8, 1914
James Welch died Saturday night at the county jail.  Welch was a hobo without 
a relative or a home.  He came here three weeks ago and was taken sick at the 
time he was locked up.  He was about 65 years old and no one could be found 
who knew him.  A coroner’s inquest was held Sunday and the remains were 
shipped to Ann Arbor Monday afternoon.
