Weller, 80, of Stanton, formerly of Portland, passed away on Aug. 4, 2000. He as born on April 22, 1920, in Ross Corners, the son of Jacob and Phoebe (Kenyon) Weller. He worked for General Motors for 22 and a half years as a mechanic and farmed all of his life. He also loved to work in his garden and hunt. He was a veteran of World War II, serving the U.S. Army and a lifetime member of the Portland V.F.W. Post #4090. Mr. Weller was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #2168. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorene A. Esterline; children, Kay Marie and Frederick James; two sisters, Ruth and Gertrude. Surviving are his wife, Kate of Belding; eight children, Jacob William (Patricia), Michael Earl (Toots), and Gerald Mark (Ellen) all of Sunfield, Patrick John (Anita) of Portland, Daniel Kevin (Kathy) of Sunfield, Terence Alan (Lynne) of Portland, Loren Donald (Cynthia) of Ionia and Teresa Ann (Mark) Brenner of Portland; stepchildren, Phillip Possehn and Deborah Possehn, both of Lake Odessa; 32 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph (Emma) Weller of Alto; several nieces and nephews; and special friends from the round table and the Cross Road Café in Stanton. The mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. Peter Vu, Associate Pastor at 11 a.m., today at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Rite of Committal following at Portland Cemetery. Military Graveside honors will be provided by the Portland V.F.W. Post #4090. The family received friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 1301 E. Grand River Ave., Portland. The rosaries were prayed at 8 p.m. Sunday and 3 p.m. Monday. There was a scriptural wake service held at 8 p.m. Monday.
