His parents, Lydia and Jesse Wellfare, were pioneers of Danby township. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at Mulliken Methodist church, in charge of Mulliken Masonic chapter. The Rev. R. J. Fields will officiate. Mr. Wellfare was graduated from Portland High school in 1891, and was valedictorian of the class. He later attended Albion college, and then for several years taught in rural schools of the area. In 1896 Mr. Wellfare married Miss Carrie Dorman, of Portland, and the couple have lived in Danby since. Mr. Wellfare was prominent in community affairs for many years, and served several years as township clerk. He was master of Danby Grange for 17 years, and was affiliated with county and national Grange units, being a seventh degree member. He was also a life member of the Blue Lodge of Mulliken; Masonic chapter of Portland, and a member of Mulliken Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. Wellfare observed their golden anniversary in July, 1946, at their Danby farm, known as “Home Acres.” Surviving are the widow and three children: Mrs. Glenn Boughner, Portland; Jesse Wellfare, Lansing; Mrs. Clifton Davis, Flint.
