Wave, Thurs. Jan. 18, 1945 Obituary of William R. Wells William R. Wells, youngest son of William and Merry Chatfield Wells, and last survivor of a family of six, died at his home in Woodbury, Tuesday, Jan. 9, 1945, aged 76 years and 22 days. He was born on what is known as the old Wells Homestead in Sunfield township, Eaton county. His father came three when but a young man, with his widowed mother, and made a home in the wilderness, one of the first pioneers of that township. He was united in marriage October 13, 1800, to Miss Cassie M. Rawson of Vermontville township, and to this union were born five children, William F. Wells, who passed away eight years ago, Bessie M. Geisel, Lake Odessa; an infant daughter who died at birth; Neva R. Pierce, Woodbury and Irol L. Wells, who resides at the parental home. His death came as a shock to his family and friends as he had been in seemingly good health and had expressed a desire to be out in his work shop. When he did not respond to a call for supper, investigation revealed him to have died from a heart attack approximately two hours previous. He had been postmaster and owned a general store in Woodbury for forty years and was well known throughout surrounding communities, having operated a grocery wagon for many years. he was a kind husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family and the companion who has stood with him through 55 years. Surviving besides his widow and three children are three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral was held from the home Saturday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m. and was largely attended by many relatives and friends. Services were conducted by the Rev. E. G. Lyons of Lansing, an old friend of the family, with Mapes & son in charge. Burial was in the Freemire cemetery.
