Belding Banner, 11 Jul 1895

On Sunday morning this community was greatly surprised and shocked by the
announcement that Rev. J. M. Wemus had just died.  The shock of his death was
greatly intensified by the fact that his physician had reported from day to day
that he did not consider the case dangerous, so the most of his friends were
resting in the hope that he would soon be able to resume his labors.  A sister
and brother of the deceased reached here the evening before their brother’s
death.  Elder Dobson of the Palo M. E. church and Elder Dickey of the Ionia
Baptist church conducted the exercises.  Monday morning the remains were taken
to Marshall for interment.
