Wentworth, 72, of Ionia died June 20, 1997. He was born May 14, 1925 in Clare, the son of Henry and Josephine (Dora) Wentworth. He married Geraldine Groce Aug. 10, 1947 in Selfridge Field. He was a veteran of the Army/Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church, 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, member of the VFW Sheridan Post, member of the Ionia American Legion, member of the Ionia Moose Lodge. He was a police officer for the City of Ionia from 1964-66. He was a Detective Sergeant for the Ionia County Sheriff Dept. from 1966-76. After retirement he was a private investigator. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Wentworth of Ionia; eight sons, Wayne L. (Sandy) Wentworth of Grand Ledge, David E. (Tricia) Wentworth of Montana, Warren T. (Gwen) Wentworth of Ionia, Darrell G. (Geriann) Wentworth of Virginia, Kevin S. (Lisa) Wentworth of Grand Rapids, Cullen W. Wentworth of Ionia, Aaron C. (Sharyl) Wentworth of Texas and Kyle P. (Kristine) Wentworth of New Mexico; two daughters, UnaFern E. (Steve) Gorham of Ionia and Marlla M. (Doug) Hull of Zeeland; foster children, Joel G. and Linda Zeigler of Illinois, Valorie J. Norris of Lansing and Rosetta M. Norris of Hastings; seven brothers, Howard, Edward, Frank, Leonard, Tom, Eugene and Clair; five sisters, Mabel McDonald, Sister Josepha Wentworth, Dorothy Germain, Agnes Akers and Fern Williams; 30 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Andrew. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Boufford celebrant. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
