Werner, Sr., 54, of 111 Northland drive died unexpectedly Friday morning at the Ionia Memorial hospital. Death was attributed to a heart attack suffered at his home. He was born in Pewamo May 18, 1921 a son of Bernard and Elizabeth Simon Werner, and attended schools in Pewamo graduating with the 1939 class from Pewamo high school. He married Virginia Bushong in St. Joseph Catholic church in Pewamo, April 19, 1941. They made their home on a farm near Portland until moving to Ionia in 1973. Mr. Werner started working at the Ionia State hospital in 1966 and was an employee there at the time of his death. He was a long-time member of the St. Patrick’s church in Pewamo and for the past three years attended the St. Peter and Paul church in Ionia. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; four sons, Bruce, Thomas, James and Frederick, Jr. all of Portland; one daughter, Elizabeth at home; two brothers, Harold of Portland; and Irvin of Pigeon; three sisters, Mrs. George Gregerson of Ionia; Mrs. Jack Hilley of Marion, Wis.; and Mrs. Clifford Richardson of Grand Ledge; and nine grandchildren. Services are Monday at 10 a.m. at the SS Peter and Paul church in Ionia with internment at the St. Joseph cemetery in Pewamo.
