John J. Werner Succumbs at 86

John Joe Werner, 86-year-old retired farmer of the Cook’s Corners area, died at
Ionia hospital at 8 a.m. today, following a stroke which he suffered Sunday
night at his Belding home, 804 S. Broas st.

Mr. Werner had resided in Belding the past seven years, after tilling his farm
for four decades.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Aires Werner, on
Jan. 6, 1946.  They were married in 1887.  His sister, Mrs. Josie Kohn, passed
away just a month ago.

A native of Otisco township, born near the Seeley school, Mr. Werner is survived
by a daughter, Mrs. Leonard Thompson of Ionia; a son, Clarence J. Werner of
Lansing; four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. H.S. Ellis, Friday, 2 p.m., from the
Ellis Funeral Home, with burial in the Otisco cemetery.
