Werner, 79, of 844 Prospect St., Ionia, died June 12 at the Belding Christian Nursing Home. He as born in Fowler on August 7, 1907, the son of Conrad and Mary Ott Werner. He was married to Ruth B. Harper on July 25, 1936 in Pewamo. She died September 30, 1968. He later married Alyce Blackmer on November 29, 1979 in Ionia. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Pewamo, and resided in Pewamo most of his life. He was a self-employed carpenter and a retired custodian from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and School. He is survived by his wife, Alyce of Ionia; five sons Herbert, Donald, and Robert, all of Pewamo; Richard of Lansing; and William of Westphalia; two daughters; Mrs. Robert (Norma Jean) Lincoln of Muskegon; and Mrs. Gary (Marlene) Chartrand of Pewamo; 3 stepchildren, Brother Paul Schafer of New York City; James Schafer of Holt; Mrs. Robert (Bernice) VanSickle of Lake Odessa; 18 grandchildren; one brother, Louis Werner of Ionia; five sisters: Dorothy Stump, Marie Klein, Monica Bengal, all of Portland; Helen Smith of Lansing; and Matilda Heightchew of Florida. Funeral services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pewamo, with the Rev. Isidro Gargantiel officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Pewamo. Rosary services were held at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. both Thursday and Friday at the George Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home in Fowler.
