West, 70, of Belding, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at his home. He was born Oct. 6, 1931, in Lawrence, Mass., the son of Susanne West. Joe graduated from Lawrence High School with the class of 1949 and was well known in the Lawrence area in his earlier years for his beautiful singing voice. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post 203, Belding. Joe was also a former member of the Grand Rapids Barbershop Quartet and had retired from White Consolidated Industries, Greenville. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Don and Bill. He is survived by his nephew, Dick and Cathy Lord of Troy; special friends, the Lewis family, Dave and Donna Quillan, and special Whitecaps buddy, Andy Quillan of Orleans; and his aunt, Dorothy West of Lawrence, Mass. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Ken Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Interment will be in River Ridge Cemetery, Belding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be given to Belding Youth Baseball League or Alvah N. Belding Library.
