Westbrook of Ionia township, who observed their 59th wedding anniversary May 7, 1941, were separated by death Tuesday when Mr. Westbrook died before noon Tuesday at their home on M-21, four miles east of Ionia. The above photograph was taken at the time they observed their 57th anniversary two years ago. A marriage which had endured happily for nearly three score years was terminated at 11:15 o’clock Tuesday morning by the death of Prindell H. Westbrook, 83, at his home in Ionia township, following a stroke which he suffered Labor day. Mr. and Mrs. Westbrook had observed the 59th anniversary of their marriage on May 7, 1941. His final illness was of comparatively brief duration, for he had been in excellent health and active until a short time before he was stricken. It was only within the past month that he had given up driving his own car. Born in Ionia county on May 24, 1858, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Westbrook, he spent most of his life in Ionia county as a farmer. May 7, 1882 he married Miss Minnie Adams of Ionia county. Mr. and Mrs. Westbrook were among those honored at the golden wedding ceremony at the Ionia free fair this year. He retired from farming about 27 years ago and has had a monument and gravestone business for the past 12 years. He was a former member of the Berlin township Methodist church and was a member of the Gleaners organization. During the World war he worked as a carpenter at Fort Custer and also as a shipbuilder at a shipyard near Detroit. Surviving are the wife, Minnie Westbrook, six children, Mrs. Mattie Rogers of Okemos, Donald G. Westbrook of Alameda, Calif., Ross A. Westbrook of Sacramento, Calif., Almeda Durkee of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Hazel Garrison o Lansing and Mark Westbrook of Ionia township; 30 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. One son, Ralph Westbrook, died in 1927. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the home of his son, Mark, in Ionia township. Rev. D. O. Press will officiate and interment will be held at Lowell.
