September 3, 2022 WESTENDORFF Roy R. Westenforff, 85, passed away August 25, 2022 at home. He was born June 19, 1937 in Clare, MI the son of Attmore & Gladys (Wickwire) Westendorff. His family moved to Illinois when he was 2 and he spent many years living there and attending school at Hopedale, Illinois until November 1953 when his family again moved to Michigan were he finished High School at Ovid, graduating in 1955. After graduation he married Rose Byer in June of 1955, who he met while living in Illinois. He moved back to Illinois and they lived there and bought a home. He worked Construction and was a truck driver. In 1962 he moved his family to Michigan and bought a farm in rural Pewamo and raised his family there. He and Rose had 3 children Rosemary Hill, Janet (Emiel) DeSander and Roy R.(Marie) Westendorff jr. He was a dairy farmer for many years and also owned Westenfdorff Redi Mix for over 20 years, later continuing with his son-in-law in the manufacture and sale of septic tanks. He was a private pilot and owned his beloved Stinson 4 place plane "Red Bird" for over 50 years and loved to fly. He and his wife flew many places and visited her parents in Illinois a number of times in the late 60's and early 70's. Later visiting her brother and family there after her folks passed away. He was a member of Lyons Muir Church. Roy is survived and will be missed by his wife, Rose; his daughters, Rosemary Hill and Janet (Emiel) DeSander and his son, Roy R. (Marie) Westendorff Jr., he had 8 grandchildren and a number of Great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, brother-in-law and sister-in- law. Funeral services for Roy was Tuesday, August 30th, 1:00 PM at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Pastor Greg Gladding officiating. Visitation was 1 hour prior to the service. Interment East Plains Cemetery.Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Masonic Lodge in Hubbardston.
