Dorothy E. Whan
IONIA - Dorothy E. Whan, 84, of ionia died Monday, Nov. 13, 1995.

She was born on March 23, 1911 in grand Rapids, the daughter of Bert and Anna
(Holmes) Henderson. She graduated from Grand Rapids Junior College, and she graduated from 
Central Michigan University in 1969.

She taught elementary music in the ionia Public rural Schools and the Lowell Public
Schools, retiring in 1976. She was a member at the First Presbyterian Church for 50
years and was the choir director and children's choir director.

She is survived by son Dr. Jon (Kay) Whan, of Bay City; daughter Susan (Mike) Tate,
of Saginaw; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan on June 18, 1992.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in
Ionia with Rev. Marjorie Longwood and Rev. Robert Nixon officiating. Interment will be in
Balcom Cemetery. and visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m
on Thursday at Myers Memorial Chapel in Ionia and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the
church.

Memorials contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the
First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
