All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Nan Wheaton wheaton1624@yahoo.com May 11, 2014, 6:56 pm Ionia County News – March 6, 1952 IONIA WOMAN DIES OF AUTO ACCIDENT INJURIES TUESDAY Mrs. Victor Wheaton Succumbs to Injuries Received Last Week Mrs. Victor Wheaton, 529 North Jefferson, Ionia, died Tuesday at 5:40 p.m. at Blodgett hospital in Grand Rapids from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on M-66 at the north Ionia city limits last Wednesday. Mrs. Wheaton, who was traveling south into Ionia at the time, apparently lost control of her car, and crashed into a tree. Deputy Sheriff Loyal Hodson reported that Mrs. Wheaton lay helpless in that wrecked car for about 30 minutes unnoticed by passing motorists. Mrs. Wheaton was finally discovered in her car by Ed Vance, retired farmer, who stopped to investigate the accident and then notified the sheriff’s office. She suffered a broken shoulder, broken arm and ribs, and fractured legs as well as shock. The death of Mrs. Wheaton is the fourth traffic fatality to be recorded in Ionia county since the first of the year. Nellie E. Davidson, daughter of James and Mary Davidson, was born at Midland, January 23, 1879. During her early years she taught rural schools in Midland and Clare counties and later became a nurse at Kalamazoo State Hospital. She was married to Victor B. Wheaton of Ionia on April 20, 1899, and they observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1949. Mrs. Wheaton is survived by her husband and six children: Col, James R. of Fort Jay, Governor’s Island, New York; Stanley of Dallas, Texas; Clare of Lakeside, California; Kenneth and Miss Marjorie Wheaton, of Ionia, and Mrs. Don Hartley of Belding; two sisters, Misses Jane and Anna Davidson and a brother, James Davidson, all of Detroit; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Time of the funeral is tentatively set for 2:30 Friday afternoon, from Boynton Funeral Home, pending word from the son, Col. James Wheaton, New York. Burial will be in Highland Park.
