Wheeler was born Sept. 1, 1856 at the Wheeler farm home at Chadwick where his parents came as early pioneers from Washtenaw County in the early 40’s. He was one of nine children, all of whom grew to manhood and womanhood but only three survive him, Mrs. Ottie Fox of Belding, Mrs. Mary Brothers of Howard City and Fred Wheeler of Chadwick. He taught school several years and in 1877 bought the farm which was still his home at the time of his death. He was married Sarah Teaker, Dec. 24, 1878. Five children were born to this union, two dying in infancy, and Luia died at the age of 24, Feb. 21, 1890. His wife departed this life leaving him with three small children. He was married again May 31, 1891 to Mrs. Rosena Marshall, who has been a good and faithful wife until his death, July 5, at Belding, where they had gone so he could have special treatment for valvular heart trouble with which he had been afflicted for some time. He leaves besides his widow and two daughters, Mrs. Edna McVicar of Bath and Mrs. Grace Shekell of Ionia, a stepson, Ermond Marshall and five grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who will mourn, the loss of a good honest man gone from their midst.
