Wheeler, one of the substantial citizens of Danby township for the past half century, passed away Saturday morning at his home south of the Barr schoolhouse. He had been ill for about a year with cancer of the stomach, but it was only a few months ago that the true nature of his disease was ascertained. He had failed steadily from the start and all hope of his recovery had long since been abandoned. Mr. Wheeler was a native of New York state and was born December 7, 1844, which put him in his 76th year at the time of his death. He came to Macomb county, Michigan, when he was two years old and when still very young came to Danby. He lived on a farm near the Section schoolhouse, in Danby, for almost 30 years and 22 years ago settled on the farm where he died, in the Dow neighborhood. He was an unusually industrious and thrifty citizen and had accumulated quite a large amount of property. His first wife died 26 years ago, leaving no children. After his first wife’s death he married Miss Ida Mallet, who with four children, survives him. The children are Morris E., Charles O., Lorenzo A., and Mary I. Wheeler, all of whom, with one exception reside at the parental home. Mr. Wheeler was a member of the Portland Congregational church. His funeral was held Monday afternoon, and the remains were buried in the Danby township cemetery.
