Belding News, 17 Nov 1904

The remains of Mrs. Susan Wheeler, a former resident of this place, were 
brought here Tuesday night and were interred by the side of her husband, 
Marcellus A. Wheeler, in the Smyrna cemetery, Wednesday forenoon, after short 
burial service which was held at the residence of A.J. Dicken, in which house 
the deceased formerly lived.  Mrs. Susan Stevens was born in Clarmont, New 
Hampshire, December 10, 1823.  At the age of seven she was left an orphan, 
afterward living with her grandparents until she was twenty-one years of age.  
She received her education in a young ladies’ seminary in Boston, Mass.  She 
came to Ionia, Mich., in 1872 and was married to Marcellus A. Wheeler of Smyrna 
in 1873.  Since the death of her husband, in 1894, she has made her home with 
Mrs. Effie Itzenhauser of Lakeview.  She died on Saturday, Nov. 12, 1904 aged 
81 years.  She was a loving wife and a kind neighbor and leaves many friends to 
mourn her loss.

Mrs. Effie Itzenhauser desires to thank the people of Smyrna who so kindly 
assisted her in the performance of the last sad rites accompanying the death 
and burial of a loved one.
