Sentinel-Std. Wednesday, May 17, 1977

IONIA- Ernest W. Wheeler, 83, of 496 Baldie street, died late Tuesday 
afternoon following a lengthy illness.

He was born near Petoskey, March 17, 1894, the son of Warren and Caroline 
Purchase Wheeler.

He was employed at Ionia Manufacturing for 40 years before his retirement in 
1956 and was an active member of First Baptist church for the past 37 years.

Mr. Wheeler served with the WS Calvary in Columbus, Ohio 1913 to 1916.

He married the former Leda Petersen in Grand Rapids in 1917 and they made 
their home in Ionia since that time.

Mr. Wheeler was preceded in death by a brother, a half brother and two 
sisters.

Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Earl (Evelyn) Borup of 
Lyons, Mrs. Albert) Greta) Lesky of Saranac, and Mrs. George (Doris) Gillson 
of Muir, eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services are Thursday at 2 pm from First Baptist church with Rev. Roy A. 
Pitts officiating.

Burial is in Balcom cemetery.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the Leddick funeral home 
Tuesday 7 to9  pm and Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.

A memorial fund is established for First Baptist church.
