N.Y. He was from New England-Quaker parentage. On May 23, 1845 he married Sarah Schofield, from this union five children were born, Loretta M. Wheeler of Belding, Oliver J. Wheeler of Rose City, Barton A. Wheeler Northville, Mrs. Olive N. Lockwood, Binghamton, N.Y., Benjamin F. Wheeler of Townsend, N.Y. The wife and mother died Dec. 17, 1856. In 1860 he moved to Lansing township with three of the children where he resided until April 16, 1897 when he removed to Belding. On Aug. 25, 1861 Mr. Wheeler married Laura C. Swift who died April 29, 1900, from this union one son was born, Obadiah C. Wheeler of Bloomingdale. He as 83 yrs. 3 mo. 23 days of age, he died on the 43d anniversary of his second marriage. He united with the Baptist church in his young manhood but after coming to Michigan he united with and joined the Plymouth Congregational church of Lansing, of which he was a member at the time of his death. In 1848 he joined the I.O.O.F and in 1849 the F. & A.M. of which he has always been an active and enthusiastic member. The funeral services were held at his late home under the auspicies of the F. & A.M. Rev. Mr. Sheehan officiating. Relatives from out of town attending were O.J. Wheeler, of Rose City, Barton Wheeler and wife of Northville, O.C. Wheeler Bloomingdale, E.B. Blett and wife, Ravenna, Eugene Brown and wife of Chadwick.
