Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard – Wed. July 19, 1950

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Rocky Ford, Colo., for Bert Wheelock who 
died at his home there Sunday.

Mr. Wheelock was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Wheelock and was born on the 
farm west of the Empire Orchards. He attended Spaulding school and later 
graduated with the 1890 class of Lyons high school.

He taught at Spaulding school before completing a commercial course at Ionia 
high school. In 1892 he went to Colorado and purchased a ranch where he had 
since made his home. He made a specialty of raising cantaloupes and selling 
seeds to southern planters.

He is survived by his wife and a sister, Mrs. Clara Wheelock. Two other 
sisters, Mrs. Manie Faxon and Mrs. Julia Lathrop, and a brother, John, preceded 
him in death.
