Prior, she had been residing with a niece, Mrs. Charles Groves in Muir. Born west of Muir February 12, 1860, she was a daughter of Mr and Mrs Chapin Wheelock and was a school teacher for 50 years at rural Lyons and Petoskey. For 30 years she taught at Petoskey. Miss Wheelock was a member of the woman's organization of the Muir Presbyterian church and was queen of the Muir centennial in 1956. On her 96th birthday, she received letters from President Eisenhower, Governor G. Mennen Williams and Clair Taylor, state superintendent of public instruction. Surviving are three nieces, including Mrs. Groves. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Muir Presbyterian church with the Rev. Lewis Herrick officiating. Burial will be in North Plains cemetery.
