September 10, 2025 Excerpts from Saranac Obituary EVELYN WHEELOCK Died September 10, 2025-age 83 at her home peacefully. Born May 20, 1942 in Canon City, Colorado, the fourth child to Ralph & Pearl Hazen. Evelyn graduated as Valedictorian in Canon City High School in 1960, & was the 1st to attend college, graduating from Southern Nazarene University in 1964. She met a young airman who was stationed in Colorado Springs, attending church with her cousins.It was Daniel "Dan" Wheelock & she married him on December 23, 1966. After Dan was ordained in the Nazarene church, they served together in ministry from 1969-1997 in Ardmore, OK, Altus,OK, Indianapolis,IN & Joliet,IL. Evelyn was a constant & faithful Pastor's wife, often playing the piano during worship, helping with various ministries, helping behind the scene to those in the church. She maintained involvement in her children's schools as a substitute teacher. As they grew older, she reentered the workplace with several fulfilling jobs for 18 years in downtown Chicago. She was the goto person with computer related issues. In retiring in 2013 she & Dan moved to Cape Girardeau, Missouri to live across the street from her grandchildren. Her home became a gathering place with with laughter & unconditional love. After her daughter relocated, to join the family in Miami, Florida. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daniel on October 26, 2023 & by her brother Duane Hazen & sister-in-law Barbara Hazen. Survived by her children, Darin Wheelock, Danette (Joel) Neikirk, grandchildren Jared (Lucianna)Neikirk, Alex Neikirk & Katelyn Neikirk, sister Marilyn (Ken) Arnold & many nieces & nephews.
