Ionia Sentinel-Standard – Mon. Jan. 20, 1969

LAKE ODESSA- Prayer services for Charles Albert Whelen, 76, were Saturday at 
pickens funeral chapel at Lake Odessa. 

Mr. Whelen died Saturday morning at Ionia Manor following a lengthy illness. He 
was a former resident of Fergus Falls, Minn. and a navy veteran of World War I.

He was born August 16, 1892, in Wadena, Minn., the son of James and Edna O’Neil 
Whelen. In 1927 he was married to Frances Mendelke who died in 1954. Since the 
death of his wife he has made his home with a niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. 
Thomas Lester of Lake Odessa.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at Our Lady of Victory church at Fergus, 
Minn.
