Ionia Sentinel Standard, 2002

Sandra “Sandy” L. Whipple (nee Thorp), 62, of Grand Rapids, passed away 
unexpectedly Sun., Feb. 10, 2002.

Sandy was born and raised in Ionia.  She was preceded in death by her parents, 
Myrtle and Elton Thorp; her step-father, Arthur Swanson; and her in-laws, 
Dwight Sr. and Olive Whipple.

She is loved and will be missed by her family, husband of 42 years, Dwight 
Whipple; daughter, Patti (Ed) Reynolds; son, Dave (Amy) Whipple; grandchildren, 
Katy, Patrick, Betsy, Trisha Reynolds and Samuel Whipple; brother-in-law, Clyde 
(Sonja) Whipple of Traverse City; niece, Linda (David) Todd and their 
granddaughter, Sally Ann of Indianapolis, Ind.; nephew, Tom Whipple of Atlanta, 
Ga.; and her step-brothers and sisters, Carol (Larry) Gregory, Conrad (Joan) 
Swanson and Mary Ann Swanson.

Funeral and committal services will be held 3 p.m., Wednesday at Aldersgate 
United Methodist Church, 4301 Ambrose Ave., NE., with the Reverends Ellen 
Brubaker and Cathi Gowin officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet her 
family from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday at the Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 
Fuller Ave., NE, at 3 Mile Rd.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to 
the Blodgett-Butterworth Health Care Foundation for the Cardiac Unit.
