Jan. 19, 1917 FOUND DEAD IN BED Mrs. John Whipple, Easton Resident, Expired Sometime During Wednesday Night. Mrs. John Whipple was found dead in her bed this morning by her daughter, Mrs. Jay Post, who went to the home from her home nearby. Mrs. Whipple seemed to be in her usual health Wednesday night; her death was totally unexpected. She was 74 years old. Mrs. Whipple was born in New Jersey and lived there until she was about twenty years old, when she came to Michigan to visit her sister at Clarkston. She stayed in this state for some years and finally married Hiram Phillips, brother of Mrs. J.M. Hathaway of this city. It was almost forty years ago that they moved to Easton, near the Reformatory, where she lived the rest of her life. Mr. Phillips died about 17 years ago. She afterward married John Whipple, whose death occurred three years ago last September. Mr. Whipple was steward of the Michigan Reformatory for about twenty years. Mrs. Whipple leaves to daughters, Mrs. Eula Lee of Detroit and Mrs. Jay Post, children of her first husband. There is also a grandson, Otto Lee, who has made his home with her since Mr. Phillip's death. Two sisters survive - Mrs. Mary Fleming of Clarkston, Mich.; and Mrs. Rebecca Martines of Hacketstown, N.J. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed. Mrs. Lee is expected to arrive in the city this evening.
