Ionia Sentinel-Standard

Edwin Richard (Dick) Whipple, of Saranac, born May 17, 1934, son of Oliver and 
Nina Whipple passed away on Aug. 26, 2009 at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids.

Dick served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed for 
several years at Vromans Mobile Feed Service, was foreman at B&B Waste 
Management in Ionia and worked the last 20 years at Wholesale Ticket Co., INC 
in Saranac.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years Martha “Marti” Whipple; adopted sister, 
Kim Bovee of Saranac; son Steve (Lisa) Whipple of Charlotte; daughter, Keri 
(John) Dunn of Clarksville; 6 grandchildren, Tony (Kara) and Tommy Whipple of 
Saranac, Corey and Kirstin Dunn of Clarksville, Joe White of Charlotte and 
Katie Siddock of Owosso; 3 great-grandchildren, Kelly, Travis and Cody Whipple 
children of Tony and Kara of Saranac and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Nina Whipple; one brother, 
Edward and one sister, Ellen Whipple Morgan.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, 11 a.m. at Lake Funeral Home 
in Saranac with Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Luncheon following at the 
American Legion in Saranac. The family will receive friends and relatives 
Saturday 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Anyone wishing 
may make memorial contributions in Dick’s name to Shiloh Community Church.
