June 4, 2009 Marguerite Whipple, of White Lake and formerly of Traverse City, Greenville and Ionia, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2009. She was born on June 21, 1921 in Ionia the daughter of John H. and Bertha (Antcliff) Schlosser. Mrs. Whipple grew up in Ionia where she worked for Associated Truck Lines as a depot manager and semi-driver during World War II. She then worked for Meijer Inc. as a cashier and earned cashier of the year award. She also worked in the corporate office for Meijer as an assistant buyer. It was there she met her husband Lloyd who also worked for Meijer from 1946 -1992. They married on Aug. 29, 1953. Marguerite and Lloyd then moved to Greenville in 1959 where they founded L and M Ice Company. They moved to the Traverse City area in 1977 after Lloyd was transferred to the Meijer store there. Marguerite was involved in many clubs while in Traverse City and had many good friends. After her husband passed away, Marguerite moved to Plainfield, Ill. and then to Independence Village in White Lake to be near her son. Her time in White Lake was spent going to all the activities she could do and also to bingo on Friday nights. What she loved most was spending time with her friends, playing games and just visiting. Surviving are her son, Allen (Lisa) Whipple of White Lake, granddaughter, Emily Whipple, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd in 1998; brothers, John, Herman, Bill and Joe and sisters, Bertha Scheurer and Marian Schlosser. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009 at LeValley United Methodist Church, Ionia. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday.
