He was born July 31, 1864, one and a half miles south of Orleans village, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Whipple, pioneer residents. In his earlier life he worked on the rail road and later took up farming. After leaving the farm he did considerable carpenter work and followed that occupation until forced to retire on account of ill health. Many homes in Ionia, Belding and Orleans stand today as the result of his labors. Mr. Whipple was married to Miss Mary Simmons of Orleans Oct. 16th, 1886 and they were the parents of two sons, Burr of Grand Rapids and Harry of Easton township, who with the widow survive. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Alice Itzenhouse of Lakeview. Mr. and Mrs. Whipple celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary October 16, but due to his critical condition only a few intimate friends called. Funeral services were held at the Fales funeral home in Belding on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, under auspices of the Masonic lodge, of which he was a member. Rev. Thos. Rice of the Methodist church officiated and interment was in the Orleans cemetery.
