Ionia Sentinel - Thursday, June 7, 1900

Mrs. Whipple, who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Crossett, the 
past week, received Monday morning a dispatch from Petoskey that her husband 
was very ill. She left on the first train, reaching Petoskey at 10 p.m. to find 
Mr. Whipple a corpse, he having died at 4:15 of apoplexy. The remains arrived 
here this evening. Funeral will be held at residence of Mr. Crossett at 5 p.m. 
Wednesday. Interment in west side cemetery. Briggs Whipple was born at North 
Adams, Mass., July 17, 1847. He enlisted in the 21st Michigan regiment Sept. 1, 
1864, was discharged May 15, 1865. Was married to Ella A. Crossett Dec. 12, 
1870, His wife and only daughter, Mrs. Kenzie Beurmann, of Lansing, survive 
him. Mr. Whipple was many years a resident of this place. He was a member of 
Willson post, No. 87, G.A.R. of Lowell.
