Ionia Daily Sentinel, 4 & 7 Nov 1960

Mrs. Mary Jane Whipple, 91, died Thursday afternoon at the home of her niece, 
Mrs. Lucille Montgomery of Easton township, where she had made her home the 
past three years.

Mrs. Whipple was born November 20, 1869 at Croton, Newaygo county, the daughter 
of Charles and Lusina Simmons.

She was married in October 1886 to Fred L. Whipple who died in 1942.  Mr. and 
Mrs. Whipple spent most of their lives in Ionia county and lived a number of 
years at Orleans.

Mrs. Whipple was a former member of Belding Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by a son, Harry E. Whipple of Ionia, and a sister, Mrs. Ella 
Shaw of Alhambra, Calif.  A son, Burr J. Whipple died in 1957.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Stone-Kauffman funeral 
home with Rev. Floyd Emshwiller, pastor of First Christian church, 
officiating.  Interment will be in the family lot at Orleans cemetery.

Funeral service for Mrs. Mary J. Whipple, 90, who died Thursday afternoon was 
conducted Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Stone-Kauffman funeral home.  The Rev. Floyd 
Emshwiller, pastor of First Christian church, officiated and interment was in 
the family lot at Orleans cemetery.  Bearers were Ross Holland, Ted Sherwood, 
Dwight Whipple, Robert Montgomery, Jack Montgomery and Lyle Simmons.

Persons attending from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Ross Holland of Dearborn, 
Mrs. Wallace Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Parker and Lyle Simmons of Detroit; 
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Sherwood of Carson City, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Dreger of 
Charlotte, Clyde Whipple of Midland, Mrs. Frank Hale, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest 
Leach, Clark Palmer, Mrs. Anna Spaulding, Edna Thorne and Velma Thorne of 
Orleans; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Peterson, Mrs. Anna King and Roy Johnson of Belding; 
Mrs. Jessie Blake, Harley Blake and Mrs. Roy Moody of Stanton.
