He was stacking hay and the stack was to quite a height, and in assisting to raise the poles of a hay derrick they fell over and one of them struck him on the head, fracturing his skull; one arm was also broken and he was otherwise injured. He was conveyed to the house and died a few hours afterward. Mr. Whitacre was a good citizen, honorable and upright, always attending o his own business and respected by his neighbors. He was 34 years of age and leaves a wife and one young child. The funeral services were held from the Methodist church in this village on Thursday morning last, Rev. Millard officiating and the Maccabees of which deceased was a member and in which he carried $1,000 insurance, attending the funeral in a body, accompanied by a fair representation of the members of the L.O.T.M. It was but a week before his death that Mr. Whitacre had been reinstated in the Maccabees, after having allowed his policy to lapse, through the efforts of his wife, who was the beneficiary.
