The Ionia Standard, Friday, July 23, 1897
Geo. A. Whitacre was killed on his farm on section eight of Danby township on 
Tuesday evening, while assisting in raising some sheer poles for unloading 
hay.  The coupling chain came loose, and a falling pole struck Mr. Whitacre 
and inflicted injuries which caused death within five hours.  He was aged 
about 30 years.
