Sept. 7, 1894 James H. Whitaker’s Funeral. Funeral services over the remains of James H. Whitaker were conducted at Pewamo, this afternoon – first by the odd fellows at his late home; thence the remains were taken to the M. E. church; and at the close of the service there, the remains were taken to the Bingley cemetery, 4 ½ miles south of Fowler, for interment. Mourning was universal at Pewamo, business generally being suspended. A stranger in the little town could not but be struck with the expressions of sincerest respect at every mention of the deceased’s name. He will be much missed in business circles, where he was admittedly an honest, popular and leading spirit. The Floral tributes were profuse, and on scale a of beauty rarely witnessed. The deceased was 32 years and 11 months old, and leaves a wife and four young children. He was a member of Ionia Council of the Royal Arcanum, in which he held $3,000 of insurance; a member of Pewamo lodge of the A. O. U. W., in which he carried $2,000; also a member of Fred Hall Encampment of the I. O. O. F., all of which orders were represented at the obsequies. Ionia Arcanums present were; F. C. Miller, C. B.
