Marian Elizabeth White, 94, of Farmington, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, 
July 31, 2014.   She was born on Aug. 28, 1919, the daughter of Gordon and Nell 
(Scheurer) White.  

Marian earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Wayne State University 
in Education and was in the teaching profession for over 30 years.  She taught 
at several schools in the Detroit area.  Marian went to the University of 
Michigan while teaching English and earned another Master's Degree of Library 
Science and finished her career at Redford High School.  

She spent her summer vacations traveling around the world, or teaching Library 
Science at several universities in New Hampshire, Florida and Texas.  In 
retirement she volunteered to work and was a member on the Birmingham American 
Association of University Women, where she assisted with the annual book sale.  

She is also remembered for the two successful editions of the High Interest-
Easy Reading, sponsored by the National Council Teachers of English.  For many 
years, she served on the Board of Directors which sponsors the Book and Authors 
Luncheons twice a year.  Marian had many fond memories as a child spending 
summers on the Ionia County farm of her grandparents, Fred and Phebe Scheurer. 

Preceding her in death were her parents, Gordon and Nell (Scheurer) White; and 
infant brother, Gordon White.  

The Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at Lehman 
Funeral Homes, 220 Rich St., Ionia, with Pastor Clint Galloway presiding.  
Interment will follow at Balcom Cemetery, Ionia.  The family will receive 
friends from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the Ionia 
Chapel.
