White, age 90, of Lyons, passed away May 7, 2014 in Lansing. He was born December 23, 1923 in Vickeryville, MI the son of Floyd and Nora (Pinkston) White. Thomas attended Starr Commonwealth School for Boys in Albion, MI, where he was mentored by “Uncle” Floyd Starr, until age 16. Thomas became an avid artist at a very young age and continued his art until death. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, painting, woodworking, and spending time with his companion Otter. Thomas was a Construction Engineer SGT in the United States Army. He was attached with Co A 355th Engineer Regt. during World War II working with combat tactical construction and explosives. Thomas was stationed in Bend, Oregon and did tours in Germany and England. During his service he received a Bronze Star, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Euro-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and Overseas Service Ribbons (2). Thomas married Dora Jean Gladding on April 11, 1946. She preceded him in death May 16, 2002. Thomas is survived by his son, Floyd White of Grand Ledge and daughter, Gaye White of Carson City; brothers, Maynard White of Ionia; grandchildren, Tommy Witzel of Muir, Pepper Witzel of Carson City, Burt White of Grand Ledge, and Ellen Arden of Muir; great grandchildren, Hollie Jones, Wyatt Witzel, Cole Witzel, and nephew, William Jenks of Muir. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dora Jean White; sisters, Gladys Smith and Bonnie Jenks. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, May 13th, 11 a.m. at Lyons Cemetery with Pastor Greg Gladding officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, May 12th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in Muir.
