White, 76, of 634 Morse, died Saturday morning at Ionia County Memorial hospital of an apparent heart attack. Born in Ronald township July 29, 1897, he was the son of Arthur and Florence Williams White. He attended rural schools in Ronald township and Ionia high school. He worked at the post office in Ionia before enlisting in the army in 1917, and serving in France and Germany. He was discharged May of 1919. He was employed at Ypsilanti Reed Furniture company of Ionia. He attended Ferris Institute at Big Rapids two years after which he returned to the Ypsilanti Reed for a short while before beginning work at the Michigan Reformatory where he was employed 35 years until retirement in 1968. He was superintendent of the garment factory at the reformatory. December 29, 1922, he was married in Ionia to Velma Gilmore and they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary December of 1972. After retiring from the reformatory they moved to Harrison where they made their home until returning to Ionia in July of 1973. He was a member of First Christian church, Belding post of American Legion and had been a member of the American Legion 56 years. Surviving is his wife Velma. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Leddick funeral home. Rev. Roger Gifford will officiate and interment will be at Tuttle cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the First Christian church.
