Stephen Whiters was born in Lima, Allen Co., Ohio, July 8, 1830.  Was married 
to Mary Jane Valentine November 8, 1857.  He came to Michigan in 1868 and 
settled on a farm near Clarksville, with his wife…(illegible)….the third child 
died June 8, 1889.  Margaret Ackerson, the second child, died July 7, 1890 
which leaves seven children to mourn his loss; Wm. Whiters of Greenville, Mrs. 
Judd Wood of Edmore, Mrs. Frank McGlocklin and Mrs. Frank Gott of Lowell, Mrs. 
Frank Heath of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Bert Slater of Clarksville and Samuel 
Whiters of Edmore.

His last illness was of short duration, keeping his bed only part of the time; 
his death came very suddenly and unexpectedly, and he passed away very 
peacefully Sunday morning, April 26, 1908, at 10:30 at the home of his 
daughter, Mrs. Judd Wood.

The remains were brought to Clarksville from Edmore by relatives on Monday, 
and were taken to the home of Otis Ackerson, who is a grandson of deceased, 
where they remained until Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, when the funeral was 
held at the Cong’l Church, conducted by Rev. Clemo, and the remains were 
interred in Clarksville cemetery by the side of his wife.  The sons and 
daughters were all present at the funeral service, and many other relatives 
attending.

We desire to express our thanks to McCormick’s and Otis Ackerson for opening 
their home to receive the remains of our deceased father and for their 
hospitality to the mourners.  We also thank the singers fot he music provide, 
and to all those who in any way showed sympathy toward us in our bereavement.
