Whitesides, age 76, of Grand Haven passed away Thursday, March 27, 2003 at Hackley Hospital. He was born January 31, 1927 to William F. and Bertha (Louthan) Whitesides in Jefferson City, Missouri. He married Lesley Echlin June 1, 1947 in Ionia. Bob was employed by Dake Corporation, a division of JSJ, and retired as Vice President of Sales in 1989. He later was employed with J.W. Oakes Realtor’s and retired from there in 1999. After graduation from Ionia High School in 1945 Bob attended Davenport Business College and graduated in 1947. Bob served in the United States Navy during World War II as a radio man. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church of the Dunes where he sang in the choir for over 50 years and also active in the Stephens Ministry. Bob was a member and past president of the Spring Lake Country Club, member of the Grand Haven Elks Lodge, North Ottawa Council on Aging, American Legion Post #28, Grand Haven Township Zoning Board, American Heart Association, served on the board of Goodwill and a member of the Men’s Stag Club. Bob enjoyed sailing and was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Lesley; daughter Laura (Brad) Host of Birmingham, son Tom of Battle Creek, and a son-in-law Dennis Bishop of Hudsonville; four grandchildren Joshua (Heidi) Bishop, Meredith and Taylor Host and Caleb Bishop. Also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Ann, sister Donalee Rowley and brother William Whitesides. A Memorial service for Bob Whitesides will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at united Methodist Church of the Dunes with Rev. Eldon Eldred officiating. Friends may meet the family at the church one hour prior to the service. Friends are asked to remember Untied Methodist Church of the Dunes or the Grand Haven Senior Center.
