WHITFORD, THEODORE J.:
   SENTINEL-STANDARD, Ionia, MI, 5-12-1997:  "BELDING - Theodore J. Whitford,
79, of Belding died May 9, 1997 at his residence.  He was born Jan. 6, 1918 in
Orleans to L. J. and Martha (Schultz) Whitford.  He was an auto salesman for
many dealerships in Ionia and Montcalm counties and retired from Independent
Bank as a courier in 1993.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a
life member of B.P.O.E. Lodge 548 in Ionia and a member of the Goodfellowship
Club and Belding Dance Club.
   He is survived by his children, Janet (Wayne) Reister of Midland, Virginia
Van Deusen of Ionia and son-in-law, Rick Van Deusen.  Two step-grandchildren,
Bonnie Albert of Belding and Thomas (Sandy) Treynor of Belding; 10
grandchildren, 18 ste--grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and nine
step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Lou Dahl of California and Esther
Bush of Greenville, one brother, Walter (Mildred) Whitford of California;
several nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends.
   He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion A. Burt Treynor Whitford;
parents, L.J. and Martha, two sisters, Alice Lambertson and Lucille Briggson;
two brothers, Herman and Orlo Whitford; his first wife of 32 years, Maxine; one
step-son-in-law, Ted Albert; one step-daughter, Jane Treynor Sweet.
   In keeping his wishes, a cremation has been held.  A memorial mass will be
held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father George
Darling and Rev. Dick Woodward officiating.  There will be no visitation.
   Memorials may be made to Major Project Elks Lodge 548 of Ionia Crippled
Children's Fund or Helping Hands Hospice of Ionia County."
