Whiting, 85, died at her home, 676 Rich street, Saturday morning at 9:30 o’clock following a longstanding illness. She had been suffering with a chronic bronchial trouble for some time, but had been seriously ill since July 26 when she suffered a dislocated hip from a fall. Mrs. Whiting was born July 21, 1849, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Taft, in Ionia township, on the farm now owned by Frank Taft. She attended the Badder school. She was married to James Whiting, also of Ionia township, July 22, 1867, at the Ionia Presbyterian church parsonage. They made their home on the Whiting farm in Ionia township which was located only one-fourth mile from the Taft home. In 1900 Mr. and Mrs. Whiting moved to Ionia to 676 Rich street, to the home which Mrs. Whiting has occupied until the time of her death. Mr. Whiting died November 19, 1914, of a stroke and since that time, her daughter, Mrs. Erma Dickerson, has resided with her. Mrs. Whiting’s oldest daughter, Mrs. Minnie Heilemann, a practicing osteopath, died March 25, 1914 at Goderich, Ontario. Mrs. Whiting leaves one brother, Frank Taft, of Ionia township, a son, John Melvin Whiting, and two daughters, Mrs. Ralph Smith and Mrs. Erma Dickerson; and two grandchildren, Mrs. P. E. Terry, of Chicago, and Miss Helen Jean Smith. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the home of Rev. M. W. Duffey conducting the services.
