George Edgar Whitinger Jr., of Lyons, also of Lake Panasoffkee, Fla., passed
away Oct. 4, 2006 in Leesburg, Fla. at the age of 89.  He was born May 31, 1917
in Fargo, N.D.; son of George E. Sr., and Isabelle C. (Cochran) Whitinger. 
George served his country in the US Army during W.W. II.  After he returned he
moved to the U.P. where he and his wife ran a motel, he also worked on the ferry
boats at the Sault, and also was a taxi cab driver.  Then the couple moved to
Texas, and then they moved back to Michigan and made their home in Lyons, then
after the death of wife Cora Luella Whitinger in 2000, he moved down to Lake
Panasoffkee, Fla. to live with his daughter Mary.

Mr. Whitinger was preceded in death by his wife Cora; children, Larry A.,
Melvin, Mike, and Cora Lee; one granddaughter, Sheri Jo; one
great-granddaughter, Casey.  He is survived by children, Wanda (Cecil) Cook of
Potterville, Mary (Frank) Wilkinson of Fla., George E. of Burlington and Joyce
(Robert) Schultz of Grand Blanc; 19 grandchildren, and 42 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Oct. 12, at the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher
Chapel, Sunfield, with the Rev. Robert Crouch of the First Baptist Church in
Charlotte officiating.  Military rites and committal services followed the
service at the Sunfield Cemetery.  The family is being served by the Rosier
Funeral Home, Sunfield.  For those wishing, contributions may be made to charity
